What Makes Virtue So Amazing?
Locally Sourced
Situated along Michigan’s Cider Coast, we’re fortunate to work closely with local farmers whose apples we’re proud to use in our cider. Each harvest season, they bring us crates filled with fresh, hand-picked fruit. After pressing, the pomace doesn’t go to waste – it’s shared with local farmers as cattle feed, used on our property to nurture a volunteer orchard of seedlings, and even fed to our animals. It’s all part of our commitment to sustainability and supporting the community that helps make our cider possible
Seasonal
The southwest region of Michigan boasts a climate that mirrors some of the world’s best cider-growing regions. With over 40 inches of annual rainfall – a key requirement for top-quality fruit – it’s one of only three areas in the United States that offers the ideal conditions for crafting exceptional cider, alongside the Pacific Northwest and the Hudson Valley in New York. This unique climate gives our ciders their distinctive flavor, shaped by the seasons and the land itself.
Sustainably Produced
Our farm is environmentally verified by the state of Michigan, ensuring that our practices for water conservation, pollinator habitat, soil health, and animal welfare are regularly reviewed and held to the highest standards. With over 20 acres of grasslands, we’ve created a monarch waystation that supports local pollinators, contributing to the health of our community and the surrounding environment. We press our apples right on site, using minimal electricity and water, keeping sustainability at the heart of everything we do.
Authentically Crafted
True farmhouse cider is rooted in authenticity – it’s about honoring both tradition and craftsmanship. It requires techniques passed down from cider-making regions across the world, blended with sustainable practices that respect the land. Authentic cider starts with the finest apples, grown in orchards with the perfect climate, and hand-picked with care. It’s crafted in barrels, nurtured by cidermakers with patience, because like all great things, cider takes time. At Virtue Cider, we’re committed to making cider that’s as genuine as it is exceptional – using local heirloom fruit, never adding sugar, and crafting it with the same care as fine wine.
